Dear Friends, here is our update on the Soul of Europe’s activities since Christmas.
The Monasteries Project, Kosovo
Our team of Kosovo Serbs and Kosovo Albanians, are preparing a report for the Soul of Europe, outlining the possibilities of creating a basis for healthy community relations between the Serbian Orthodox Patriarchate in Pec and the Municipality – almost all Kosovo Albanian and Muslim. The monastery, designated as one of the six most sacred sites in theMediterraneanby the EU, is guarded by NATO soldiers who will be replaced by local police.
The Report will be presented in September at a public gathering of the Serbian Orthodox Church and Kosovo Albanians. We will then go toBelgradeto present the Report to Patriarch Irinej, the leader of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
The Twelve Cities Project
Noori Bibi and Rizwan Hussein of Young Muslim Voices are ready to take the project further once our German partners and the Soul of Europe have raised the funding. Two meetings of Muslims and non Muslims in February and March, the first in London and the second in Dortmund, showed much enthusiasm for this project – creating a grass roots movement in Europe, beginning in twelve cities, to interrupt and undermine growing mistrust and prejudice against many Muslim communities.
The Doha International Centre for Interreligious Dialogue has expressed an interest in being one of the sponsors for the project. We are waiting to hear from them.
The Twelve Cities Project is a model for inter-generational activities, where the older, those in their sixties and seventies, work closely with those in their twenties and thirties.
Bach And Peace-Building
Donald has now given four presentations – where he speaks of the work of peace-building and plays a number of Chorale Preludes by Bach. These have been received very positively.
If you know of a Church who would like to invite Donald please be in touch with him. One of the audience wrote saying: ‘the concept of bringing Bach with your experience of peace-building is brilliant.’
The Winchester Fellowship
Donald is preparing a number of programs for his Fellowship atWinchesterUniversity. They will be related to the Soul of Europe’s work inBosniaand Kosovo. Former colleagues of the Soul of Europe will be invited to participate.

A Personal Note
Peter has almost finished editing his book Dust – a trilogy about the Soul of Europe’s work. Donald has been encouraged by Noori Bibi to write Letters to my Grandchildren – a good format for sharing whatever wisdom he has discovered over the years.
We are really grateful to those who support our work. As you know neither Peter nor I are paid so we have to raise the funds to keep the office open and for basic travelling and other expenses. The best way to do this is by way of a regular standing order. Please consider supporting us in this way.
We like to hear from you. If you have any questions or comments about the Soul of Europe please be in touch.
Thank you for reading this.
Donald and Peter
